JohnLock is the name of my favorite OTP...
John Watson and Sherlock Holmes. Especially in the television show, Sherlock BBC. Their actors are Martin Freeman as the faithful Dr. John Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch as the eccentric Sherlock Holmes. As gay rights have been at the forefront of many debates for several years, decades even, acceptances of homosexual relationships have shed some light on the classic story of Sherlock Holmes written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Many literary experts are staring to lean towards the idea, after studying Doyle's fifty-plus Sherlock Holmes novels, that either one or both of the world-acclaimed pair are homosexuals. However, Doyle had witnessed first-hand the terrible persecution of two very close gay friends and had taken a very negative stance against the idea, it was still a very personal matter to him and scholars believe that it was shown through his work--thus the relationship between John Watson and Sherlock was born.
However, most scholar believe that the romance was next to none in the stories. The reason behind this behind that Sherlock Holmes does not understand the depth of emotions as others do and his feelings towards John were definitely deep love/infatuation/adoration, but they were strictly platonic. The same goes for Watson, as they believed him to feel the same way for Sherlock, but social mores and his attraction to women kept him from ever pursuing and relationship with his partner.
Sherlock BBC tends to explore this side of Sherlock Holmes; the TV series is chalk full of innuendos and hints at the two being in a relationship together. The fans, most of them at least, are absolutely nuts about it and they "ship" (or strongly support the couple) as the OTP (One True Pairing) of the fandom. Tumblr, Facebook, and Deviantart are just some of the many websites that fans gather to share their common interest in the pair. Both actors of the series known and acknowledge the fans ideals, flattered and supportive of the couple becoming apart of the show. This website is just one of the many that cannot stop being absolutely, one hundred percent...
